If you have a bit of a thing for the colour black, then the answer to this would be “yes”. It may also mean that you are wealthy, from the upper classes and see yourself as superior to those less fortunate than yourself. It may also mean that you are a bit of a control freak and a bully……. Of course, these will depend on which century you lived in!
What on earth is she going on about, I hear you say. Well, dear reader, have faith, for there is a point to my ramblings……. I promise.
“When he broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying ‘Come.’ I looked and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard something like a voice in the centre of the four living creatures saying ‘A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; but do not damage the oil and the wine.’” (Revelation 6:5-6)
The third horseman is said to represent famine, as he carries a set of scales which is how staples, such as bread, would have been weighed during a famine.
But, is he a bringer of famine or the representative of a situation already inherent?
To me, he symbolises more of an oppressor, causing famine style situations by driving up the price of staples, such as grain, whilst leaving the price of luxuries, such as wine and oil, unchanged. In doing this, the wealthy can control the poor, by restricting their food supply, so much so that an entire day’s wages will only buy enough to feed one person with wheat or three people with barley (seen as a lower standard of grain).
Throughout the ages, there is evidence of the wealthy and upper classes exerting their authority over the poor and lower classes in one way or another, and many see the third horseman as a direct representation of this.
The shining black mount he rides out on is an indicator of this wealth and power, as black used to be a colour worn only by the wealthy as, quite simply, they were the only ones who could afford the dye!
So, does your penchant for this multi-faceted colour say something about your background, your upbringing and your attitude towards others or, do you wear it simply because it makes you look slim, moody, mysterious and out of reach?
Either way, it could indicate a side of your personality you may not want to admit to, and it could well point to a past life you used to lead.
Why not explore this possibility and see where it takes you, dear reader?
May fear protect you when the darkness comes.
Til next time.
